At the beginning it's usually to finish something you had said before (similar to "like I was saying").

At the middle it's usually used to describe an action that can't be stopped (similar to "regardless").
"He was going to leave anyway(s) so I just let him."
At the end it's usually used in the same way as the middle and to describe something that happened in spite of something else (similar to using "still" before the verb).
"Nobody wanted him to come, but he came anyway(s)."
"Nobody wanted him to come, but he still came."
