Here’s what I believe and I might be wrong
We’ve been waiting for you
Is a sentence maybe used on the phone telling her to be there because (ing) is present continues meaning they are still waiting
While the other sentence ( We’ve waited for ) indicate that the waiting has been over
This is what I believe and again I might’ve be wrong

@Sh0sh_MX You are correct that 2 would be used in the situation you described. In the original post either answer would work. I guess if I was waiting for someone and they just arrived, I would say “Finally! We’ve been waiting over an hour!”

@Sh0sh_MX yes. This is correct. First sentence uses the present perfect progressive tense. Meaning an action that started in the past and is still continuing. Second sentence uses the simple past tense. Meaning you are finished waiting. 😉
