@jube55 I don't know the technicals but by saying it like that, I think ż is pronounced in front of the mouth while ź is more like at the back? (or inner at least)

You've already gotten some great answers but let me add mine, maybe it can help. Basically, they're 2 separate(but similar) sounds. Imo, when pronouncing ż your tongue touches your lower back teeth, I mean the ones you chew with, and the tip of your tongue should touch your lower gums. When it comes to ź your tongue is higher if you will, it touches your palette and instead of the tip touching your gums, it should touch your lower front teeth(or it should be right where the teeth and the gums meet).

I'm not sure, but I think all of these(ś, ć and ź) can be described as palatal consonants, meaning when we articulate them our tongues press against the hard palate or something like that(I'm 100% sure it happens but don't know if that's the right name for it) haha, I study Dutch Philology but we also learned about the sounds we have in Polish so that's where I know this from haha

These are two different letter associated with two different sounds. Ż is pronounced like "s" in "measure" and ź is a sound that unfortunately doesn't exist in English.. I'll look into how I can explain it to you more phonetically, sorry for that!
