Pytanie o JAPONIA
Hello! I am curious about your thoughts and opinions on bullying in Japan, and what you believe could be done to improve things, or if you'd like to mention some things that are already being done. Feel free to share your experiences if you're comfortable and able to

@undertherainjp Thanks for you reply! What I meant by "ijime" was the act of whole classes or groups of people choosing one victim in the class to bully and mock. I have heard that these acts of bullying can be very harsh compared to Sweden, which is why I'm curious about how things works in Japan.
Thank you for the statistics! Unfortunately I cannot open the pdf file you sent. Of course, there is bullying in Sweden as well. Here the teacher will step up (if it's a good teacher) and interfere, there are resources (support, counseling) offered at the schools as well as outside of school that the bullied child can reach out for (anonymously, if they would like to), one example is bris.se. As far as being one of the student, speaking up and acknowledging the issue is important. In my experience, it is common that people in the class will be nice to whoever is bullied and try to include them in a way or form, as it taught early on that "everyone should be included".
If you have a good teacher, they will adress the issue head on and contact the parents of the bully to inform them and give them a heads up so that the parents can try to change the behavior. We had "mental health classes" with our counselor for two weeks or so where we were taught about depression and got to examine how we felt (privately).this was later turnt in for the counselor to look at and learn to know what students need assistance. I don't know if this is common practice in Swedish middle schools, but I certainly found it to be valuable and necessary.
These are the things which I could think of that have some sort of effect in reducing bullying and supporting the one who is in need of it(in my experience!).
Thank for reading! Feel free to share some of your experiences or thoughts on bullying in Japan, even if you don't find it to be an issue! I'm curious about how it works as Swedish culture and schools are very different from the ones in Japan (obviously).
