'ie' wordt in spreektaal gebruikt voor 'hij'.
* Dat heeft hij/ie niet gezegd
- He didn't say that
Soms wordt het ook zelfstandig gebruikt. Het betekent dan iets anders dan 'hij'. Compare:
* Daar gaat ie! - Here goes!
Daar gaat hij - There he goes
* Daar komt ie! - Here it comes!
Daar komt hij - There he comes
'wel' has many meanings in Dutch,
some of which are:
It's the opposite of 'niet' (not)
and is used to contrast.
* Ik hoor je niet, maar ik zie je WEL
- I don't hear you, but I DO see you
* Hij drinkt geen thee, maar zij WEL
- He doesn't drink tea, but she DOES
It's used to emphasize
* Hij had het WEL gehoord
- He DID hear it.
* Ze heeft WEL tien kinderen
- She has a good ten children
(expressing that ten children is a lot)
It's used to indicate a moderate
degree
* Hij doet het WEL aardig
- He does okay.
(indicating it's not super, but only so so)
