It’s the opposite, in my opinion. Saying “te amo” is stronger than “te adoro”.
I’d say “adoro” is more commonly used for friends and colleagues. And “amo” for partners and members of your family.

I disagree. To me it’s actually kinda the opposite: “amo” is stronger than “adoro”, although it does sound more common, as “gosto” is a looot more used than “adoro”*.
For ex, you might say you “like/adore” your significant other, but not quite “love” them.

*”Adoro” sounds like something out of a book or novel, and some people can find it cute :)
However, a more common use of this word would be meaning worship, as in “I worship God/Eu adoro a Deus”

Grammar tip: the article “a” can change the meaning of a sentence. 
Example: If say “eu adoro Deus”, it’s literally “I really like God”, whereas “eu adoro A Deus” means you worship God.

" I love this girl / Eu amo essa moça" - strong intensity, however it is used when you like someone very much in the sense of "love".
 "I adore this girl / Eu adoro essa moça" has strong intensity, even more than "I love / eu amo", but "I adore / eu adoro" and used more when you find something sensational. 
When you love someone, you say "I love you or I love you / Eu amo você ou Eu te amo", because that way the feeling of "love / amor" was best expressed. As for "I love it / Eu adoro" it is more used for God.
 Ex.: I, André, love God / Eu, André, adoro Deus.

Gostar (verb) = To like
Adorar (verb) = To love
Amar (verb) = To love

Eu gosto = I like
Eu adoro = I like very much/I love

In levels of intensity of feeling "adoro" it's in the middle, it's more intense than "like" and less intense than "love".

É completamente o contrário. Dizer que ama alguém é bem mais forte e intenso do que simplesmente dizer que adora.

Um exemplo disso é que se uma pessoa, que está em um relacionamento há algum tempo, dizer que adora o parceiro, com certeza, o irá magoar.

O "adorar", quando é usado com pessoas, é mais para você não se comprometer amorosamente.

No rank de intensidade ficaria assim:

1º - "Eu amo";
2º - "Eu adoro" ;
3º - "Eu gosto".

E o adorar é mais usado no aspecto religioso. Ex: Adorar somente à Deus. Mas também pode ser usado para dizer que adora: músicas, livros, filmes, adora os amigos, adora cantores ou atores... Já o "Eu te amo" é mais usado com aquela pessoa muito especial ou com os pais ou com algo que é muito extraordinário para você.
