Hi! I am really interested in Western University. I am wondering that is there any other university in Canada on the same level of Western University? I am going to apply for Communication and Media Studies or Journalism, so I hope that it has these or similar programs.

@sheisantonia As far as I know, the best university in Canada for journalism is Carleton University. I'm not positive though.

Yes a lot of research and rankings show that Carleton University do have very excellent Journalism program. But I prefer a university with more international fame and reputation...

@sheisantonia the top universities in Canada in terms of international recognition are the University of Toronto (UofT), the University of British Columbia (UBC), and McGill University.

UofT offers an undergraduate 'Book and Media Studies' program at the main Toronto campus.
At the Mississauga campus, they offer undergraduate degrees in 'Communication, Culture, Information, and Technology' (CCIT), 'Visual Culture and Communication', and 'Interactive Digital Media'.
At the Scarborough campus, they offer undergraduate programs in 'New Media Studies', 'Media, Journalism, and Digital Cultures', and 'Journalism'.
The 'Journalism' program is a joint program between UofT (Scarborough campus) and Centennial College. At the end of the program, you will receive both a bachelor degree in Journalism from UofT and a college diploma in Journalism from Centennial College.

UBC has an undergraduate bachelor of `Media Studies` program and they also have a 'School of Journalism' (offering a graduate program), however they do not have an undergraduate program in 'Journalism'.

As far as I know, McGill does not have a 'Media Studies' or 'Journalism' program, however they do have an undergraduate 'Communication Studies' program.

@pythonpoole Thank you for your helpful and elaborated reply!! It is so nice of you to answer me so earnestly and patiently! Yes these three schools have very high reputation around the world and offer high-quality education. But the problem is, these schools are full of Chinese! With my all honesty, I am searching for schools like Western University, which offer high-quality education as well as authentic study abroad experience.

@sheisantonia Western University does offer a high quality education, but it does not have a lot of international recognition.
Western University is ranked like ~250 in the world compared to UofT, UBC, and McGill which are all ranked in the top 50.
With all due respect though, schools like UBC are "full of Chinese" because Canada is "full of Chinese".
Canada is a nation of immigrants. That's what we thrive on—being able to bring people together from all over the world and live, study, and work together in a peaceful and harmonious environment.
Roughly 20% of the Vancouver population (where UBC is located) is of Chinese ethnicity, and a total of 40% of the population is ethnically Asian.
In Toronto (where UofT is located), around 50% of the population comprises foreign-born immigrants, and about 10% of the population is of Chinese ethnicity (and roughly 1 in 3 people are ethnically Asian).
The white/caucasian population may be higher around Western University, but that does not mean that it is a more "authentic study abroad experience". A city like London (where Western is located) is not representative of Canada as a whole.
Most major Canadian cities have large immigrant populations, including a sizeable Asian demographic.
So, it's your choice, but I personally think it is is a very silly reason to ignore options like UofT and UBC because you think they have too many Chinese students, because Canada has tons of foreign immigrants all over the country and these immigrants are a major part of Canada's cultural identity.

Note: When I say "Asian" above, I'm including people from areas outside East Asia as well (like South Asia, South-East Asia, etc.) However, the majority of Asians in Canada are from East Asia anyway.

Thank you again for your quick response. I am struggling since this is a very important choice to me. By the way, you are really familiar with universities in Canada, are you a university student?
