@Erikajp Certainly, that is another meaning. So, what I said is one case but "forget about it" can also mean 気に留めない。

It can be used as an expression.

A: Can I pay you for the taxi?
B: Oh, don't worry, forget about it.

Or, in a sentence like this:

"I want you to forget about what I said last night, I was just feeling stressed."

The first situation is "I have forgotten about something" and the second is "I'm asking you to forget about something".

Forgot something: "I forgot to get my bag."
Forgot about something: "I forgot about the cake."

A Cambridge dictionary has an example sentence:
"I'm sorry, I've forgotten your name."
This sentence hasn't got "about".
Can I say "I'm sorry, I've forgotten about your name."?
Or is it strange?

@Erikajp I disagree. If you have forgotten somebody's name you say "I have forgotten your name".

"I have forgotten about your name" sounds like something to do with the name.

B: My name is quite long.
A: I think my name is longer.
B: Oh, I had forgotten about your name.

Sorry, but sadly, it seems hard for me to really understand it.
However, an English-Japanese dictionary says forget about something(intransitive) means 忘れる(forget) or 気に留めない.
I think 気に留めない means "not mind" or "not pay attention to" in English.
Do you think "forget about something" is similar to 気に留めない？
