If you're from London or any other part of England, you're both English and British. If you're British you're from the island of Britain which consists of England, Scotland and Wales. You're English because you're born in England.

To be British you have to be born and be living here or just legally be a British citizen.
I come under that category so I'm British.
My parents were born and raised in Asia then soon moved to London. I believe they were not British but they had some paper work done which made them a British citizen.
Then years later my mum had me. Since I was born in England I automatically was considered British.
I can't be English because my family orginated from Asia.

“British” means anyone who is a citizen or a long-term resident of Britain or the U.K. (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, though the last one is sometimes controversial).
So anyone born in London, or who has their only real home there, is British.
“English” can mean the same, anyone resident in England, but sometimes it means the ethnic majority. For that reason a lot of people might say they are, for example, Black British or Jewish British, even if they were born in England, like the person above.
In Wales and Scotland it is more common to use “Welsh” and “Scottish” as residents.

English means you’re from England and British means you are from somewhere in the UK. Londoners go by both though I suppose. You can also call them londoners
